Tangled is seeking designs which are unique, delicious, inspired, funky, holy-cow-I-have-to-make-that-right-now! Designs may be written for knitting, crocheting, or a combination of the two. We strive to give equal time to needle and hook.

Click here to read our wish list for the next issue’s designs and submission deadlines. If you would like to be notified regarding calls for submissions and storyboards via email, please enter your email address below.

Accepted designs will be offered in two different formats: free download or pay-per download. If you have a strong preference as to how your design is offered, please let us know; however, the final decision is at the discretion of the editor.

Free Downloads
The designer will receive:
-A one-time monetary compensation for the design.
-Full rights to your design. Although the design will always be available on Tangled, once the pattern has gone to archive, you may self-publish, post, or submit the design however you wish.
-Tech-editing, photography, pattern layout and video tutorial (when applicable) work done by Tangled will be yours to use.
-Excellent exposure to a large audience of interested, dedicated people with the same passion for yarn that you have, for as long as Tangled is on the web.

Pay-per Downloads
the designer will receive:
-A generous percentage of every download sale of your design, both while the issue in which it is featured is live, as well as once it has gone to archive.

All Designs
Yarn support for your design work will be available whenever possible. If Tangled is able to arrange yarn support, we will do so, but this may not be possible for every design. If yarn support is arranged, selection (color, manufacturer, etc) will be at the discretion of the editor.

Your design may also be considered to be featured in "Cross-Threaded," a segment in each issue which takes one or two suitable designs and converts them from knit to crochet, or vice-versa. If you are interested in having your design used in this segment, your original design will be permanently credited in the Cross-Threaded design, increasing your exposure to the yarny community. If the design is a pay-per download design, you will also receive a percentage of sales for the converted pattern. You are not required to participate in this segment, nor will you have to do any of the work involved in converting the pattern. If you feel your design would lend itself well to this segment and are interested in participating, please note that in your submission packet.

For all submissions, we require the design to be your own original work, not previously published in ANY other format (including photos on Ravelry or a blog), and not in current submission to any other publication. Upon acceptance, you will be sent a contract which outlines compensation amount and schedule, project and pattern deadlines, and legal obligations for you and Tangled. By submitting work to be published on Tangled and accepting compensation for it, you are giving permission for your work to be available on Tangled in the manner outlined in your contract. Once the issue is live, you may post a photo of your design on a website of your choice with a link back to Tangled. Archived patterns in both the free and pay formats will remain available through Tangled indefinitely.

If you are interested in submitting to Tangled, your submission packet should include the following:
-A sketch (or photo of a finished piece) and schematic with measurements and sizes.
-A swatch and yarn/needle/hook information. Alternative yarn suggestions are also helpful.
-Your contact information and a brief bio (if desired). Make sure your contact information is attached to your swatch and sketch, as well.

Keep in mind that the packet you send is our only impression of how fabulous your design is. It should be clear, attractive, and give us a definite idea of what to expect in the finished piece. Make us love it as much as you do!
