Original design by Melissa Somerville
My very first project from tarn was a colorful I-cord jump rope made for my daughter. Not only did she get a new toy that was soft and easy for her little hands to grip, I’d finally found one she couldn’t tie it into a hundred impossible knots around her bedposts. These days I spend my free time cutting up t-shirts and working on patterns designed just for this funky, chunky, earth-friendly yarn. Check out my growing collection of t-yarns and patterns at my Etsy shop.

I’m not a good cook, and among the things I don’t like about cooking is grabbing hot pans and cookie sheets with an oven mitt that feels like cardboard and would fit King Kong. Or worse, one made so thin you end up with second degree burns. This twined oven mitt doubles the dense, protective nature of knitted tee while retaining the comfort and easy care of cotton. Tee also has a bit of “grip” so sizzling pans, handles, and other hot stuff can be moved to tables and counters with confidence. And the pattern is so simple, you can easily make mitts for every chef in the house.
